From 13 November 2023, to change the tax agent for your SMSF (or any other companies or trusts you have), you must nominate them online through ATO Online Services for Business.

This means even if you authorised your new tax agent in writing; they can only gain access to your records and details with the ATO or lodge anything on your behalf after you authorise them online.

To appoint Grow as the tax agent for your SMSF, follow these steps:

​If you already have ATO Online Services access for your SMSF, skip to Step 3.

If you've previously applied for a Director ID, you should already have the myGovID app set up on your phone. If not, please follow these instructions:

You will need "Strong" identity strength to link your myGovID to your SMSF online.

If you have "Standard" identity strength or your SMSF has a company trustee, you will need to phone the ATO and get a linking code.

Login to the Relationship Authorisation Manager to link your SMSF to your myGovID.

If your myGovID identity strength is "Standard", you can't link your SMSF online using the "Link your business" option.

To get an authorisation code to link your SMSF, you need to do the following:

Use your myGovID to log in to ATO Online Services for business.

Select your SMSF and click next.

Under Profile, select Agent details:

You will see any existing tax agents authorised for your SMSF.

Search for GROW SMSF PTY LTD by entering our company name or Registered Agent Number: 26057627

Confirm the nomination and submit.

You will see GROW SMSF PTY LTD listed as a nominated agent.

Grow is NOT automatically notified by the ATO that we've been nominated as the tax agent for your SMSF. No, we are NOT JOKING 🙃.
